The first is little more than a trickle

I am a semi-retired researcher and author of local history
Wave
The first is little more than a trickle
The second you can barely notice
The third pretends to break
The fourth makes you think about it’s wake
With the fifth you are wide awake
By the sixth standing up and being brave
To turn round and face the seventh wave
